Payroll Accountant


Butterfly Effects is seeking an experienced Payroll Accountant to join our Corporate office in Deerfield Beach, FL!


The Payroll Accountant will work under the general direction of the controller, overseeing payroll administration.  The Payroll Accountant is responsible for monitoring all tasks necessary to accomplish the organization's payroll processing objectives, including relationships with external auditors and state and federal agencies. Most of the employee's time is spent planning, coordinating and managing the functions of the payroll department. This position requires a reliable; detail orientated person with significant knowledge of payroll administration, including state and federal regulations.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Performs all essential functions associated with processing payroll for the organization of 1,000 employees.
  • Oversees maintenance of payroll records and files including but not limited to PTO, sick leave and other accrued leave.
  • Performs audits and analytics to ensure payroll and time off is correct for all employees and that employees are receiving and using time off within policy.
  • Ensures all time worked is reported timely and any late submissions are paid promptly when reported by Field team.
  • Audits changes to employee compensation to ensure increases, promotions and other pay adjustments are modified promptly based on effective date.
  • Audits payroll to identify anomalies in reporting time worked to ensure employees are paid correctly and not reporting time that is outside of policy.
  • Verifies payroll data in a timely manner, calculates overtime and other pay premiums, and enters payroll data.
  • Calculates bi-weekly bonuses for employees and reviews to ensure all goals are met.
  • Creates and reconciles payroll to the bank and ensures all entries are made to the Financial statements. Provide entries to QuickBooks by reporting unit.
  • Prepares manual checks as necessary.
  • Responds to routine inquiries concerning payroll deductions and accruals, wage garnishments, child support payments, and employment verifications.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of payroll practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Exporting payroll from time management system and importing into HRIS. Preparing bi-weekly payroll budget analysis (Actual vs. Budget) including ensuring that all employees are classified in their proper departments.
  • Maintains current knowledge of applicable state and federal wage and hour laws.
  • Stays current on payroll systems to achieve alignment with HR benefits and other related and to ensure effective accounting support.
  • Facilitates management and employee understanding of payroll procedures.
  • Special projects as necessary.



  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of payroll experience
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite
  • Experience in a healthcare setting is preferred
